My deepest sympathies to Linda’s family and friends. I only met Linda a couple of times when I attended CWSS meetings. At my very first meeting I was feeling a little out of place and ended up with Linda leading my dinner group. There were just three of us and she showed us such a good time. I also shared dinner with her in Kelowna and she told me to make sure I saw Kelowna while I was there, even if it meant missing some of the conference. I took her advice. And am still always thankful I did! She was so kind and lovely.

I only recently met Linda, at quilt guild. She was energetic, happy , more than willing to share her talents and ideas. She took me under her wing to be the best president, for the quilt guild, and guided me thru the learning curve of an executive position. She said if I fail, she failed, and that was not an option! I will miss her encouragement, unfailing generosity, and her let’s get it done attitude. May she rest in peace!
My condolences to her entire family!Reply

My sincere condolences to Linda’s family and friends. Linda was a weed science lab instructor at U of S when I completed my Crop Science undergraduate degree. Later in my career, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Linda on several projects including as a guest lecturer at Linda’s U of A Herbicide Mode of Action Courses as well as co-sponsor of several U of A graduate students. Linda was always highly supportive of her students and as a result, many weed scientists have benefitted from her guidance and encouragement. The weed science community will forever benefit from Linda’s contributions and we are eternally grateful!

Linda was an amazing scientist, educator, teacher and supervisor. I had the privilege of being her first official graduate student at the U of A. She saw potential in me and all her graduate student that sometimes we didn’t even see ourselves, and she dedicated herself to helping us realize that potential. She forged her own path in everything she did and I am forever grateful her path intersected with mine. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

My sincere condolences to Linda’s vast network of friends and family. Linda was an inspiration on so many levels. She was an exceptional scientist, a dedicated mentor, and a loyal friend. Her energy was boundless and she threw herself into all projects big and small with an enthusiasm that was contagious. She was smart, funny, driven, and kind. I am deeply grateful for her mentorship and her friendship. I have included a photo of us doing field work many years ago. The only photo I could find and while I am sure there are better photos out there, the fact that she is in a patch of weeds with her head down and hard at work is also perfect. She really put so much of herself into everything she did and the world was a better place with her in it. You will be missed Linda.

Ohhh Linda, I will miss you so much. Jeff and family, I am so sorry. Linda and I aligned on so many planes: biology, gardening, kayaking, hiking, quilting… I am profoundly saddened by her passing, and will miss her bouncy and positive nature, and her sharp wit, with just a hint of mischief. I have a few photos of Linda – kayaking, hiking, and making up pheromone trap allotments for cherry growers – but this one from an afternoon of cooking up African dishes shows the sparkle she brought to every day.

I send my condolences to Linda’s family and friends. I was one of her students and she impacted my life in so many ways. She was an incredible mentor, colleague, and friend. I learned so much from her not just about weed science or graduate school, but about life, and about myself. She believed and taught me to believe I was capable than so much more that I thought – and did that with all of her students. She will be greatly missed.
