🦁 Join Us: Rebuild Social Capital with Lions Clubs International 🦁In Bowling Alone, Robert Putnam revealed how our social connections have frayed over the years—people are more isolated, less engaged in their communities, and our shared sense of trust has diminished. The film Join or Die builds on this message, showing the critical role social organizations play in rebuilding our "social capital." 💡Organizations like Lions Clubs International are the solution. We provide a platform for people to connect, engage in meaningful service, and work together to create positive change. By joining a Lions Club, you're not just helping your community; you're helping rebuild the social fabric that keeps society strong. Why does this matter? According to Putnam's research, communities with high levels of social capital are healthier, safer, and more prosperous. When people unite for a common cause, the ripple effect is powerful—transforming not only lives but entire neighborhoods. 🌍Join us in being part of the solution—let’s strengthen our communities by fostering connections, giving back, and building a better world, one act of service at a time. Our work is focused on making a global impact through eight critical causes that affect communities everywhere:Vision 👓: We aim to prevent avoidable blindness and improve sight for millions through screenings, surgeries, and vision care services.Hunger 🍽️: Nearly 800 million people go hungry every day. We fight food insecurity by organizing food drives, supporting food banks, and distributing meals.Diabetes 💉: We raise awareness and provide resources to prevent and manage diabetes, a growing health crisis worldwide.Childhood Cancer 🎗️: From funding research to supporting families, we’re fighting childhood cancer to ensure more children grow up healthy and strong.Environment 🌱: Protecting our planet is everyone’s responsibility. We plant trees, clean parks, and support sustainable initiatives that protect natural resources.Youth 👧👦: Empowering future leaders starts with investing in today’s youth. We mentor, provide scholarships, and create opportunities for personal and professional growth.Humanitarian Grants 🤝: Through our global grant programs, we provide the financial support needed to empower communities, enhance healthcare, and deliver critical resources to those most in need.Disaster Relief 🌪️: From natural disasters to emergencies, we’re on the frontlines providing critical supplies, shelter, and recovery assistance to those affected. When you join Lions Clubs International, you're making a direct, positive impact on these vital issues. Together, we can build a healthier, more inclusive, and more sustainable world.🔗 Ready to make a difference? I was in Del Rio last night and today for the second District 2-A2 cabinet meeting of the Lions year. Great attendance, giggles, grins, and plenty of inspirational discourse. Looking forward to the Mid-Winter convention in January at the San Antonio Food Bank! #LionsClub #District2A2 #LeadershipMeeting #makeyourmarkMarlene Patton | Lions Clubs International | Rose Ann Barajas

This weekend I had the privilege of visiting Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, Michigan, as part of my district governor in training journey. It was an incredible experience, and I walked away with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who are visually impaired.Through hands-on activities like:🦮 Partnering with a Leader Dog and feeling the trust between dog and handler👓 Experiencing various levels of vision impairment with specialized goggles🤝 Learning to be a human guide to someone with low vision🦯 Navigating with a white cane, and🍽️ A memorable Dinner in the Dark where we dined without sight,I gained invaluable insight into the importance of independence and mobility for the visually impaired.I encourage everyone to support this life-changing organization. There are so many ways to make a difference:💰 Donate to help fund vital services🐶 Sponsor a puppy that will one day change someone's life❤️ Raise a puppy and be part of their journey🏡 Host a breeding dog and be part of growing the next generation of Leader DogsEvery contribution counts in empowering individuals to navigate their world with confidence and dignity.Thank you to Leader Dogs for the Blind for this enlightening experience! 🦁💙#weserve #LeaderDogsForTheBlind #LionsClubs #ServiceAboveSelf #GuideDogs #Support #VisionImpaired #PuppyRaising #DonateNow #WhiteCane #Inspiration #CommunityService

This weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Alongside fellow First Vice District Governors from AR, CO, IA, ND, GA, and WI, we toured their Canine Development Center—and what we experienced was nothing short of inspiring. We heard heartwarming stories from individuals whose lives have been transformed by their guide dogs, participated in eye-opening activities that helped us feel the mobility challenges of the visually impaired, and learned about the intricate process of breeding, raising, and training these exceptional dogs.Leader Dogs for the Blind offers four life-changing programs:1. Orientation and Mobility (O&M): A seven-day white cane training program that equips individuals with the confidence to navigate safely both indoors and outdoors.2. Guide Dog Program: Where clients are paired with a Leader Dog, receiving training tailored to their unique needs and future goals.3. Teen O&M: Empowering teenagers (16-17) with white cane training alongside their supporters, helping both grow in confidence and independence.4. Teen Summer Camp: An exciting opportunity for teens to build leadership skills, bond with peers facing similar challenges, and meet Leader Dogs in training. What’s even more extraordinary? These services are provided completely free of charge. Did you know it costs about $11K to deliver the O&M training and a staggering $100K for the Guide Dog program per recipient? Yet, thanks to the unwavering support of donors and volunteers, these life-changing programs remain accessible to those in need. This weekend reminded me that Lions truly make the impossible possible, creating a world where independence is within reach for everyone. If you’re looking to support this incredible mission, you can:🐶 Sponsor a puppy❤️ Raise a puppy to help start their journey🏡 Host a breeding dog or simply,💰 Donate to ensure these vital services continue.Let’s keep making lives unstoppable! 🦁💙#weserve #makeyourmark #LeaderDogsForTheBlind #LionsClubs #ServiceAboveSelf #GuideDogs #Inspiration #Unstoppable #CommunitySupport #PuppyRaising #Leadership #Donate #MakingADifference
